Panel Discussion of the Ethics of Service-Learning

As part of Activation April at the University of Maryland, I moderated a panel of service-learning educators about the complexities and dilemmas of service-learning. An active audience of more than 60 students discussed questions like: Is “voluntourism” always a bad thing? How do we avoid the pitfalls of “saviorism”? What is “poverty porn” and why is it problematic?
