Training K-12 Teachers in Service-Learning

It was a pleasure to engage teachers from the Georgetown Independent School District in Georgetown, Texas as service-learners in an experience in which they interviewed residents of an elder-care community on their memories of the 1950s, 1960s, and 1970s. At the community’s request, the teachers then prepared memory boards with photos and significant quotes from the interviews to display for all residents to view. The teachers-as-service-learners then reflected on and assessed their experience as a prelude to a workshop on how to implement service-learning with their own students.
