Civic Engagement Strategy Session: Volunteering, Direct Service, and Service-Learning
It is always great to return to the University of Maryland, my alma mater and professional home, to engage with faculty about any and all aspects of civic and community engagement. This time it was an interactive strategy session for participants in a two-day seminar on Civic Engagement Across the Curriculum. I had the added pleasure of welcoming Dr. Tania Mitchell, the new Assistant Provost for Community Engagement, the first such position at UMD. As a result of years of advocacy by myself and many others, this position and the Center for Community Engagement that Dr Mitchell now heads have become a reality.
